Tonight, I want to accomplish the following:

  1. Attempt to migrate the WordPress install and blog to
  2. Create a new homepage (index?) that auto-redirects to… for now
  3. Just found out that nearly all the photos I uploaded are not tagged and labeled, so I need to do some clean-up  (this is what I get for speeding through retrofilling my travel blog)
  4. Scan in some of my preliminary logo ideas

Last time I was working behind the curtain, I did a small change to style.css.  The WordPress plugin set the color of the website header to Orange… I was not a fan given.  Here are the changes I made:

/* changed the logo colar from #fd7800 to #000000 */
#logo2 a, #slogan{
color: #000000;

Next, I want to a sandbox on my website to start playing with different coding functions.  I’ve been primarily working on PHP lately, so it would be nice to have that.  To accomplish this though, I want to separate the WordPress blog over to it’s own section:

So, I found this link:  Giving WordPress Its Own Directory.  Time to save a draft and give it a shot.  brb…

(20 minutes later) That was a close one, I thought I was going to be up all night trying to recover my website and editing PHP files.  So, I successfully moved all the WordPress files over to the blog directory, but not the blog main page.  But now, clicking on everything gives me an error.

(60 minutes later) Okay, had to rollback all changes.  I found out that there were a few issues.  Ended up the root cause on a lot of this was the “.htaccess” file.  I may have to plan this out a little more carefully in the future.  This will put a wrench in the works for #2 above.

Onto updating my images… started manually updating these, then realized that was absurd.  Found this:  Excellent bulk image rename plugin for WordPress 3.5.

Also found this as preventive measure in the future:  Faster Image Insert.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to go and modify all the titles of the images though, that will be painful, but I’ll space out the work so I’m not doing it all tonight. I found the most efficient way was to go page by page and open all images on a page in edit mode in new tabs on my browser.  Will target to get these done by end of week.

I played with a few ideas by downloading images and messing with them in image editors.  I wasn’t too proud of the below.

I concluded I needed to sketch some ideas before pursuing anything else.  Here is what I came up with so far.  Still have some work to do, but this may be a start.
